Perform an Energy Checkup on Your Home

Did that last electric bill give you sticker shock? If so, try doing an energy check on your home. Your local electric company should provide this service for free. If not, here are the things to check:

  1. See if there are any gaps in your door frames and windows. Caulking and weather-stripping are easy fixes.
  2. Check your light fixtures, making sure they all have energy efficient bulbs installed and are all clean and in working order.
  3. Check your vents for leaks. Keep them closed when you’re not using them.
  4. Have your heating and cooling units serviced.
  5. Pull out your refrigerator and vacuum the back and clean the drip pan.
