How can you lay a basement floor that won’t succumb to moisture and mold? If water seepage from outdoors isn’t a factor, consider the following points: 1) Adding a layer of foam on the concrete, then plywood on the desired floor helps warm the concrete to near room temperature. 2) Don’t confuse a system like the Delta FL membrane moisture barrier with the foam/plywood approach. They are not the same; there are vast differences in R-values, which could lead to a significant mold problem. 3) Membranes keep moisture from seeping up, but don’t prevent air moisture from sinking down, which means mold can collect beneath rugs. The plywood option greatly reduces this problem.
