Zoning regulations which allow for homeowners to have a small backyard residential structure, typically called Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), have become more and more common over the past few years. ADUs are also sometimes called “granny flats,” and allow for senior citizens to move in close to adult children or other providers. A typical ADU doesn’t provide the necessary level of care that some seniors may need as they grow older, and so several companies are attempting to meet those more advanced needs with ADUs specifically designed to serve as stand-alone nursing home type rooms.
