In a press release, OSHA said that there is a problem with stone workers who do not use and/or don’t have access to the safety equipment needed to protect them from breathing in crystalline silica, which causes serious and possibly fatal lung problems. These risks can be minimized by workers monitoring the air quality, using wet tools, using tools that have covers and vacuums, using water to keep dust down, and wearing safe breathing gear.
