New Technology Could Reduce Air Conditioning Needs

Of the energy used in buildings in the United States, 15% is used for air conditioning. A new technology, invented by engineers at Stanford University, may very well help with that. They have created a thin panel that reflects heat away from the building in a way that does not heat the air but sends it, as infrared radiation, into space. It also absorbs heat from within the building and sends it out into space as well. It is still in the developmental phase, with a few kinks to work out, but when it’s ready it will be a great asset.
