September ushers in a new incentives program for homeowners, builders and contractors, installing solar energy systems on new homes. The California Energy Commission is now the only administrator of the program titled the New Solar Homes Partnership (NSHP). Investors will enjoy a more consistent system, as there will be just one point of contact, and reduced administrative costs, leaving more funds available for rebates. The Energy Commission staff assures cooperation with each utility company, collaboration with participants regarding applications and payments, as well as updated guidelines. The program’s goal is to install 360 megawatts (MW) of solar photovoltaic capacity over the next two years. The Energy Commission has allocated more than $100 million already.
