Green Buildings and Preventing Energy Loss

In this age of green building, much attention has shifted to the efficiency of insulation.  Since nearly half of building energy can escape through the roof, efficient insulation is vital. For decades, insulation has been employed in one way or another, with its effectiveness rated by R-value. Most homes and buildings can increase R-values by adding more insulation to existing amounts. Depending on weather, location, and electricity costs, the return on increased insulation is about a 20 percent savings on energy costs. New construction generally tends to exceed state and local insulation requirements from the outset. Quality insulation improves air quality, increases comfort provided by heating and cooling, and reduces utility sector emissions.
