A 5,500 square foot home is an energy monster. Gary Armstrong, a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado and koi-fish enthusiast, needed help reducing the footprint of his home and koi ponds. For support and ideas, he called in David Bednarski, owner of Bestway Mechanical in Colorado Springs. Knowing solar and various other technologies would be necessary; Bednarski began by installing a heating system that is fully integrated and radiant. There are three stages for the 19 heating zones, 12 indoor and 7 outdoors. All together, the solar set up handles 75% of the home’s energy needs. The design team is looking into installing LED lighting and various upgrades to further reduce energy expenditure.
