Remodeling specialist Kevin Wharton notes that "Unfortunately, there’s not a whole lot you can do for it once you have it.” The kind of equipment and service you’ll need to warm the ice and remove it are usually only found in northern states. Elsewhere, prevention with specific roof barriers and membranes are the salvation of homes not dealing with the ice dams’ effects.
