Rising Temperatures, Melting Snow Bring New Problems

When snow turns to rain and ice dams in your gutters start to melt, you may be met with winter’s latest challenge to your home. If you’ve noticed damp walls as the temperatures rise, the ice dams are probably pushing water from the melting snow into your house. Remodeling specialist Kevin Wharton notes that "Unfortunately, there’s not a whole lot you can do for it once you have it.” The kind of equipment and service you’ll need to warm the ice and remove it are usually only found in northern states. Elsewhere, prevention with specific roof barriers and membranes are the salvation of homes not dealing with the ice dams’ effects.
