NAHB Asks That New Silica Rule Be Pulled

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) believes the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) got it wrong when it announced new regulation for silica exposure and is asking the rule be withdrawn until more research and collaboration can be accomplished. In August 2013, OSHA determined that airborne silica could lodge in the lungs of workers, endangering their health and lives. Particles are commonly found on jobsites  due its presence in tile, siding, and other cement or stone building materials. Arbitrary restrictions could severely restrict builder use of common building materials. The NAHB takes issue with the new unrealistic limits on exposure levels. They believe limits should be set without OSHA’s “"one-size-fits-all" approach.
