Should homeowners be able to control their own home ventilation? Are they informed enough to detect potential indoor air quality hazards or knowledgeable enough to know what levels of ventilation are necessary and when? Clearly, education and good control options would be key in ensuring that homeowners understand the benefits of their ventilation system and how to run it effectively. It may be that whether a ventilation tech or a homeowner is in control is not really the issue. Perhaps understanding that a spectrum of control needs to be developed for homeowners who will foolishly turn off their units and those homeowners who will look run their systems optimally.
