Costly, Uneccessary Home Improvement Projects

Beware salespeople trying to convince you of the following costly and unnecessary home projects: 1) Regular duct cleaning. If you needed it at all, it would be a one-time thing, for extremely clogged ducts. 2) Chimney repair and gutter cleaning. Ignore solicitors who do more harm than good. Hire someone reputable or do it yourself. 3) Driveway sealing. This job is rarely “annual” despite the sales pitch. Seal as often as your weather dictates. 4) Appliance upgrades. Be sure to do the math with your realtor and utility company to be sure the costs are worth it. 5) Extremely personal renovations. Enjoy your home but don’t enjoy it so much that it becomes unsellable.
