Top Reasons Americans Move

According to the national Census, nearly 36 million people packed up the moving vans and relocated. Why people choose to move is affected every year by the economy, housing availability and family factors. To track geographic mobility, it is important to study what influences population relocation. The Census for 2012-2013 indicates the most common reasons for moving was the desire “to obtain a better home”, followed by the wish “to establish own household”, with relocation due to a “new job or transfer” rounding out the top three reasons. Though the numbers of people moving are down this year, the reasons for those moving are promising and indicate some measure of economic and housing market confidence.
