The newest version of the USGBC’s LEED (United States Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building rating system has gone through months of debate and an atypical amount of public comment periods, but has finally been approved by a ballot vote of USGB members with 86 percent in favor of a minimum of 66.7. The new system has been dubbed LEED v4 and will go into effect this fall. Webinars and a full program and reference guide for the new program will launch in the summer. Much of the passionate debate about the changes was centered around the proposed changes relating to building materials.
