The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) recently published an article that utilized an equation that averages mobility tendencies of a typical home buyer to show that the typical buyer can be expected to live in a home for 13 years before moving. The article updates a previous article based on data from the American Housing Survey to include data gathered through 2011. The actual data gathered In 2011 implied that an average family in a single-family, owner-occupied home would actually stay for 16 years, but the data was averaged with previous years in the expectation that 2011 was atypical.
