According to a study by Houzz, overlapping remodeling trends have been seen again and again in recent years. Typically, kitchen remodels have several things in common: First, the project ends up being more expensive than the original budget allows for. Second, material preferences vary depending on location—builders living in different areas tend to install different countertops. Third, there has been a nationwide shift toward white cabinets and stainless steel appliances. The vast majority of kitchen remodelers surveyed reported choosing these two design elements despite possible price increases. Because many people wait decades to remodel their kitchen, they tend to splurge in order to get their first choices.
