Uses for Vegetative Roofs Increase

Green or vegetative roofs add a touch of nature to a building and reduce the environmental impact on the surrounding area. At Greenbuild 2014, Mark Munley, business development director for Urbanscape, a Knauf Insulation company, talked about the latest developments in vegetative roofs and other strategies. A modular green roof is a complete system, which consists of a root membrane and three layers: drainage, a rock mineral substrate, and vegetation. Environmental advantages of using vegetative roofs include reduced water consumption, more green areas, improved air quality in cities, better control over storm water, facilitates plant maintenance, greater energy efficiency, and aesthetic solutions to urban environments.
