Arizona utility regulators have been asked to roll back a four-year-old program designed to lower energy consumption through conservation. The effort was expected to save consumers $9 billion through 2020. According to a report posted at AZCentral, the website for The Arizona Republic, the staff of the Arizona Corporation Commission has submitted the recommendation to the panel of five elected commissioners. The efficiency program was approved in 2010 on a unanimous 5-0 vote. It requires electric utilities to reduce the amount of electricity it sells by 22% by 2020 by encouraging conservation. Opponents to the rollback claim there is no reason to fulfill the request to abandon the current program.
