Reusing Stone and Brick

Because preserved brick and stone offer so much to the architecture (and nearly for free), it’s worthwhile to try to save as much of it as possible when remodeling. There are several strategies for where and when brick/stone is saved, how to maintain it through the construction process, and how to finish it to seamlessly fit with the completed project. It makes sense to save brick and stone in places where it’s highly visible and more likely to be appreciated. Front entryways are always good candidates, and so are backdrops to courtyards and patios. There needs to be a critical mass in order to merit saving brick and stone.
