At the end of your home remodel, you want to shake your contractor’s hand, not make plans to see him in court. But what do you do when your contractor must be dealt with, and you need to protect your interests? Try these five things:
· Make a commitment to hire well next time. Get referrals, do your research.
· Negotiate your contract well. Include an arbitration clause.
· Before immediately firing your contractor for an offense, make every effort to communicate.
· Use the power of social media to challenge your contractor’s shoddy work, or unprofessional behavior. Be sure to remain as respectful as possible, in case you do end up in court.
