Small home contractors are fielding more and more requests to provide green roof options. To meet the need, they are seeking more information and learning as they go. Here are a couple of things contractors need to know:
· Each job is unique. Contractors will have to get familiar with built-in-place systems, lightweight modular planting panels or modules, retaining systems, waterproofing membranes, root barriers, and growing mediums.
· Specialized training may be required. It may be difficult to take on projects without time spent learning new techniques, and working with new tools. Also, to control mistakes and liability, contractors will need to collaborate with engineers to understand load capacities and investigate industry standards.
