As you contemplate your remodel, remember there is more to do than simply design a plan and hire someone to do the job. Save yourself time, money and headaches by screening your contractors properly. Be absolutely positive your contractor is licensed, hires qualified workers, and obtains the appropriate permits (or expects you to do so). Verify insurances, a payment schedule that absolutely does not involve cash up front, and a contract that is specific and binding. Be sure your contract includes a cancellation period, allowing you time to think about it, and change your mind if you feel at all pressured.
