If you’ve ever skipped the step of taping before painting, then you know the frustration of stray smears and messy lines. Save yourself the cleanup and do-overs. Follow these simple steps for using painter’s tape: 1) Test the tape. Be sure that the tape’s adhesive is as strong or weak as your paint job requires. 2) Apply the tape. Make sure the surface is clean and dry. Keep the tape straight and even, making smooth contact with the surface you are painting. 3) Remove the tape. It is important that you remove the tape when the paint is totally dry. Don’t leave it for more than a day or allow it to freeze.
