Big homebuilding isn’t quite done yet, though the quantity of large homes built has decreased, falling 14 percent last year. Still, the “average” sized home built in 2013 was 180 square larger than that of 2007, coming in at almost 2700 square feet. The reason behind this shift lies mainly with the changing home market, which includes more affluent and fewer first-time buyers. Buyers of these larger homes tend to lean toward features like three car garages, four bedrooms, a third full bath, and separate bathrooms in the master suite.
