Can you imagine never having to turn on your landscape lighting because the plants lining your property actually emit enough light to illuminate the paths and driveway? A company called Bigolow, has genetically modified a plant that naturally produces light without chemicals or electricity. The plant, the first of its kind, is called the Starlight Avatar and may well be a first step toward sustainable illumination. The current light strength is comparable to starlight and can be seen best in total darkness. The company hopes to develop the light source and its viability in the coming years.
