The Wall Street Journal referred to Nest Labs, Inc. as  "a poster child" for the “Internet of Things”, which focuses on the use of technology to make common household objects more useful.  Internet giant Google agreed and purchased the startup company for $3.2 billion. Nest Labs was co-founded by former Apple executive and iPod co-creator Tony Faddell. The company’s thermostats and fire detectors are internet accessible, controlled by a smart phone, and ultimately self-regulating. It is a good fit for the green industry, helping to lower heating and cooling costs significantly. Google’s considerable resources will be a huge advantage to the company, allowing it to quickly and thoughtfully create devices that will utilize customer information for a more comfortable lifestyle.
