As it becomes more affordable to implement automated controls for residential energy and more realistic for the average homeowner to be able to control their home systems more efficiently through a tablet or smartphone, there has been a corresponding increase in the popularity of automated home controls in new renovations. According to the Master Builders Association, the average home has 80 different devices which can all be controlled under a single system. Another hot trend is for outdoor living areas kept efficient with high-efficiency glass windows and doors, which can range from a full outdoor kitchen to a living room complete with audio equipment and television.
