Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) fellow Jerry Yudelson has recently published a book on green building titled The World’s Greenest Building: Promise vs. Performance in Sustainable Design. Some of the lessons he seeks to impart in that text can be found here, beginning with the lesson that any building project should be able to achieve the same energy and water use as a LEED Platinum building from anywhere around the world. This is because geography has nothing to do with the good design that is ultimately required to achieve this. Tied to this idea is the fact that high performance projects are mainly the product of a desire to accomplish high performance.
