Housing Starts a Mixed Bag

Data recently released from the U.S. Census Bureau, working with the Department of Housing and Urban Development, shows that housing starts for privately owned homes came in at a seasonally adjusted rate of 896,000 for July, which is 6% higher than predicted after the June results came in and a whole 21% higher than July of 2012. There were also sizeable gains in the area of multifamily housing starts, with the numbers showing a 26% increase in the July numbers, which offset a 26% decrease that occurred in June. The 3-month moving average for multifamily actually smooths the numbers out, showing an overall 6% increase.
