One benefit of obtaining a permit is getting an inspection from the municipality, which can uncover shoddy workmanship on the home as well as reveal building code violations. It may seem like a pain to have unexpected expenses brought out by an inspection, but if an accident were to happen from something not built to code, there’s a chance insurance would not cover it.
