The first Active House in North America is currently under construction in St. Louis, MO. The focus of an Active House is a healthy indoor climate and superior energy efficiency with a minimal impact on the environment. The project manager of the Active House, Matt Belcher, explains a few elements of the project, beginning with the location. The important part of the location was that it was an infill location, which helps to lessen urban sprawl and make use of existing amenities by recycling a previously developed site. As far as the design, the architect is operating under existing building guidelines to create a home that looks like others in the community but outperforms them.
