If you live in a cold climate, keeping your house warm during the winter is going to be unavoidably expensive. The Department of Energy’s prediction that gas and heating oil prices will rise again this winter certainly doesn’t help matters any. While there is always the option to turn the heat down and get used to living in the cold, insulating the attic is one easy way to keep heating costs down through the winter. The Department of Energy estimates that an attic that is properly insulated can cut heating costs by 10-50%. Note that a “properly” insulated attic is required.
