Homes powered by photovoltaic (PV) systems, more commonly referred to as solar-powered homes, are still a small share of the total housing stock, but their numbers are rising thanks to both government incentive and also the preference of home buyers. Energy efficiency is one of the top features in current demand for housing, and a 2012 survey by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) showed energy efficiency elements as the very top of the list of items sought. Government incentives for solar powered housing generally come in the form of tax incentives, such as the 30% tax credit established in 2005 for power production property installed on a home.
