Designers and architects are drawing inspiration from shipping container architecture, without actually using containers in their designs. One such small home resembles a shipping container at first glance, but is actually built using primarily sustainably harvested timber and CNC-milled grey cement-board panels. This prefab home assembles in mere hours and, since it is only 3.5 meters high, can be easily transported on the back of a truck. The “Homebox,” design uses a shipping container building as a model, but is not made from an actual shipping container. It simply contains all the best parts of shipping container architecture, like ease of transport, universal dimensions, sustainability, and easy maintenance.
